L’École de design Nantes Atlantique is awarded the EESPIG certification

Last July, L’École de design Nantes Atlantique was certified for its Master’s degree, and as of January 1, 2022, it has been awarded the EESPIG certification for a period of six years, which is a testament to the confidence placed in the school by the Ministry (Official Bulletin of January 6, 2022).

L’École de design Nantes Atlantique has been a private non-profit association since its creation in 1988. It effectively fulfills its mission of higher education by training designers who are open to the world. This label is currently held by 66 private higher education institutions. The École de design Nantes Atlantique becomes the first independent design school to receive the EESPIG label.

Obtaining the EESPIG certification is a real recognition by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation of the school’s effectiveness in meeting the challenges of French higher education through a model that combines innovative teaching and adaptation to current socio-economic issues and changes.

EESPIG: a state certification

Created by decree in 2013, the EESPIG label aims to bring together all the private, non-profit higher education institutions that have signed a contract with the State. In order to receive this label, the institution must prove that its management is disinterested and commit to the non-profit nature of its activity. The institution must also present its training offer and its geographical locations, as well as the elements and actions implemented to contribute to the public service missions of higher education.

The EESPIG label brings clarity to the private higher education sector by distinguishing institutions that are not-for-profit, that award degrees on behalf of the State, and that are regularly inspected by public authorities. This helps to better guide young people and their families in their choice of higher education studies.

"A few months before moving into a new building of 11,600 m2 in the heart of Nantes, this label rewards and salutes the remarkable work done by the school’s teams to make L’École de design Nantes Atlantique a reference in the field of design in France and abroad, based on its teaching model, the quest for academic excellence, proximity to the professional world and a vision of design at the frontier between creation, management and strategy. We are proud of this label," declared Christian Guellerin, Director General of L’École de design Nantes Atlantique.

About L’École de design Nantes Atlantique

Founded in 1988, L’École de design Nantes Atlantique is a partner institute of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Nantes-Saint Nazaire, recognized by the State, member of the Conférence des grandes écoles (top-tier French higher education institutions) and associated with l’Université de Nantes. The school trains professionals in creation and innovation in initial and continuing education. It has a unique standpoint, considering design as a discipline at the frontiers of creation, strategy and management.

The school offers highly professionalized training courses (internships, apprenticeships, prospective studies, workshops, projects) and awards a Master’s degree in design (MDes) certified by the French Ministry of Higher Education and the National Diploma of Art and Design (DN MADE, 3 years of study equivalent to Bachelor’s degree) via the academic route and work-study programs within the framework of the Vocational Training Center for Design and Innovation (CFA).

With a strong international development policy, L’École de design Nantes Atlantique has branches in Pune (India), Shanghai (China), São Paulo (Brazil), Montreal (Canada) and Cotonou (Benin) with Africa Design School and Africa Studio.

A center for design and innovation, the school has opened 5 Design Labs, research platforms dedicated to design-led exploration of topics related to contemporary social, technological and economic changes: Care Design Lab ((environmental and social health & quality of life), Food Design Lab (new eating habits), Digital Design Lab (digital innovation), City Design Lab (transition to sustainable cities) and Media Design Lab (communication and information issues). The school also develops research chairs in design.

L’École de design Nantes Atlantique trains 1650 students including 400 apprentices and 800 to 1000 interns through continuing education. It has a network of 1000 partner companies and 4000 graduates.

In September 2022, the school will move into new premises at the heart of Nantes’ creative district – a unique building, a place for creativity, learning and opening up to the outside world, to mark a new stage in its development. The project was conceived by the architectural agencies Marc Mimram and GPAA and the design agency Jouin Manku. Piloted and coordinated by the Nantes Saint Nazaire Chamber of Commerce and Industry, it is the result of a partnership between the Nantes Saint Nazaire CCI and L’École de design Nantes Atlantique, as well as Nantes Métropole, the Pays de Loire Regional Council and the Feder.
