Ploum : The ice-cream that fluffs up your feathers!
Following chemotherapy, serious illness or severe injury, a child may stop eating. In France, 1 in 10 hospitalized children suffers from undernutrition. Over the long term they risk serious muscle wasting, or even having their medical treatment discontinued.
Ploum is a tool that stimulates hunger in children who have lost their appetite. In the form of a nutritious ice cream developed in collaboration with La Fraiseraie and the dieticians at Nantes University Hospital, it offers a cheerful alternative to conventional medical nutritional supplements.
After enjoying their ice cream, children place their feather-shaped stick on the Totem bird, which regains its strength and color. Ploum is the fun, colorful ice cream that helps children fluff up their feathers!
This project has been selected as part of Design L'Expo 2025 and will be exhibited at La Cale 2 Créateurs from January 22 to March 9, 2025.

« The Food Design Lab focuses on the major challenges of tomorrow's food. It invites its Master's level student designers to confront their design practice with real-life issues. In this context, Élise chose to study the diet of children undergoing chemotherapy. Tackling this subject with sensitivity, thoughtfulness and maturity, she surrounded herself with professionals and families to create a tailor-made project. Ploum, the bird whose feathers need fluffing up, is a playmate and psychological support for children. A revolution in the hospital food experience for young children! » Julia Kunkel, Director of the Food Design Lab
