Saving lives with a connected pillbox
The Goldin pillbox was born of an alarming fact: the opioid crisis in Quebec will result in over 1,000,000 deaths by 2029. This tool, in the form of an advanced technological solution, aims to break patients' addiction to opioid treatment.
The pillbox links a medication management device - with smart sensors and automated functions - to a mobile application and a software package for pharmacists.
Thanks to automated reminders and real-time data collection, patients are better able to follow their treatment on a long-term basis.
Goldin could be backed by public health organizations and the Order of Pharmacists, its implementation would remain a challenge in the face of the opioid crisis and would require a reliable ecosystem.
This project has been selected as part of Design L'Expo 2025 and will be exhibited at La Cale 2 Créateurs from January 22 to March 9, 2025.

"In the U.S. and Canada, the opioid crisis opioid crisis has led to the addiction and death by overdose of tens of thousands of people. This phenomenon has gained momentum since the 1990s. In light of this crisis, Aloïs has designed a connected pillbox to monitor vulnerable patients and prevent high-risk behavior. By collaborating with healthcare stakeholders, he has created a systemic approach. His innovative tool breaks the vicious cycle of addiction. His project, entitled “Goldin” in honor of artist Nan Goldin, has been hailed for its usefulness and quality of execution." Pierre Leonard, ESP supervisor at Studio Montréal
