All designers: Kevin Condette, Customer solutions architect

The career of a Customer solutions architect

Kevin Condette graduated in Product Design in 2014 and completed his Master's level degree program in Shanghai, China. He also did his end-of-studies internship with Technochina, a company specializing in the production of connected objects. The company later hired him as a product designer, and he has been working there for the past 10 years, in China and France.

"Our aim is to encourage customers to think about the environmental impact of their products."

This interview is part of the 'All Designers' publication launched by the school to highlight the inspiring careers of 18 alumni and discover their vision of design in the face of technological, environmental and societal challenges.

Eco-friendly design: a strategic approach

Technochina, now Altyor, is a French company with 250 employees based in Orléans and Shanghai, specializing in engineering, design and production of connected products. After spending five years in China as a product designer (designing connected plugs, health devices and musical objects), Kevin returned to France and took up a position as Customer Solutions Architect for the Altyor group, within the innovation team. His mission: to act as the interface between customers and the company's operational teams, and to develop functional briefs after ascertaining customer requirements. He excels in this role, since his training as a designer makes him particularly sensitive to use and user experience.

Yes to connected products, as long as they're eco-designed

Committed to a sustainable approach, Altyor became a mission-driven company in 2022, with the aim of making a positive impact on society. Not so simple for an organization that manufactures connected objects which, by their very nature, are not necessarily eco-responsible. This decision taken by Altyor implies transparent communication on its commitments, awareness of "eco-consideration" in product needs and a more rigorous selection of its customer projects. "We sometimes turn down certain projects if they don't fit in with our eco-responsibility approach. We're convinced that the future of the planet lies in responsible consumption," says Kevin. "We can't just sell consumables," he explains. "Our aim is to encourage customers to think about the environmental impact of their products."

Design for a more responsible consumption

Altyor implements practical solutions to reduce the environmental footprint of its products. These include:

  • The use of recycled materials: Today, 82% of Altyor's production is based on recycled plastic.
  • Product upgrading: the company offers reconditioning and donation solutions to give a second life to unused products.
  • Eco-design: right from the design phase, Altyor teams integrate solutions to reduce the environmental impact of products.

For Kevin, environmental commitment is not limited to his professional activity. In his daily life, he forces himself to buy only what is necessary. He is convinced that every individual can contribute to a more sustainable future by adopting a more responsible mode of consumption, including in the fields of mechanical engineering and sustainable connected product design.
