Transphere
The interplanetary Internet project led by NASA and its partners will soon make radio waves travel at the speed of light in space. Nevertheless, the transfer of information between the planets will be quite long. A message transmitted from the blue planet will take from 3 to 22 minutes to arrive on Mars.
To prevent astronauts sent to Mars from feeling homesick, Charles has designed a virtual reality asynchronous communication service: Transphere. It provides astronauts with a virtual space shared with their loved ones. They can exchange messages, voice messages and letters offline. This allows them to stay connected despite the interplanetary abyss!
This project has been selected as part of Design L'Expo 2022 and will be exhibited at La Cale 2 Créateurs from 3 December 2022 to 26 February 2023.

Like an Edward Hopper painting, Transphere freezes time and space

"Charles' proposal invites us to look up. It takes us 78 million kilometers away, after 9 months of travel... to the planet Mars! Yet, to call Mars, we will still have to wait 30 minutes.
Transphere is a space "located" between 2 planets. This immersive tool shortens the perception of the signal sent from one planet to the other. Thanks to this mechanism, Transphere manages to simulate a simultaneous interaction between two participants. Like an Edward Hopper painting, Transphere freezes time and space" Arnaud Le Roi, Teaching Manager Digital Design Lab
