The figures are impressive. Every year, 1,900,000 electrical and electronic devices arrive on the market in France. Besides the pollution emitted during their life cycle, these objects create 800,000 tons of waste per year. Yet 50% of this waste could be avoided with simple regular maintenance.
Recap is a service that extends the life of household appliances. It relies on better maintenance to ensure an optimal life span of the device. Comprised of a digital space containing maintenance information and a connected sensor, it provides a maintenance record for each device. National finalist for the James Dyson Award, Recap powers a sustainable world.
"Bruno’s device acts as a companion-guide that adapts to the lifestyles of the family members to suggest recommendations for use and maintenance."
" Bruno’s project aims at improving and maintaining household appliances. In France, there are on average 100 appliances per household. However, the amount of waste produced by a lack of maintenance and repairs is significant. Bruno’s device acts as a companion-guide that adapts to the lifestyles of the family members to suggest recommendations for use and maintenance. It intervenes at the right time to limit wear and tear.
Linking this system with the distributors’ after-sales services ensures continuity in product maintenance. This represents a real gap today.
Recap was born from a long process of reflection with industrial actors, the circular economy and potential users. Behind this project lies the idea of providing a global response to a well identified problem. This year, Bruno MILOUX was a national finalist for the prestigious James Dyson Award with his end of studies project. "
