All designers : Batia Bertho, UX researcher
The career of a UX researcher
Since graduating with a degree in industrial design in 2014, Batia Bertho, UX Researcher, has spent the past ten years navigating the world of design, from object design through innovation to data analysis. She has shaped her career around user experience and the design of products and services centered on usage.
"My skills in UX Research and my seniority enable me to be entrusted with key missions for the company, particularly around AI."
This interview is part of the 'All Designers' publication launched by the school to highlight the inspiring careers of 18 alumni and discover their vision of design in the face of technological, environmental and societal challenges.
Design for strategic AI missions
As soon as she graduated from high school, Batia Bertho joined L'École de design Nantes Atlantique for five years of studies in industrial design. Her master's degree in care design led to her first professional experience at Nielsen NeuroFocus (now Telemedi), a Berlin-based R&D company that develops neurological devices.
Shifting requirements to serve usage
"The product I was working on worked very well from a scientific and technological point of view, but not at all from a 'use' point of view; to do this, we worked in a multidisciplinary team with mechanical, electronic and software engineers to design a successful product adapted to patient use," she explains.
This experience enabled her to understand the importance of designing products that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also functional to meet user needs. Working with healthcare professionals at the Magdeburg University Hospital on the outskirts of Berlin has been invaluable in developing her understanding of the challenges involved in patient experience and device use.
After nearly four years in this position, Batia returned to France with a desire to work on a wider variety of projects. So she joined OVA Design, an agency specialized in eco-design, where she was able to put her skills in user research into practice and compare her methodology with that of the other designers in the agency to optimize her approach. She has worked for major accounts such as L'Oréal and Urgo.
"I chose to leave behind the physical product and move on to the digital product."
Design as a response to industry challenges
In September 2022, after several months of reflection and exchanges with her peers, Batia chose to join Wemanity as a UX research and UX design consultant. "I chose to leave behind the physical product and move on to the digital product," she declares. She began her assignment at Adéo (Leroy Merlin Group), where she now works alongside a team of designers with multi-disciplinary backgrounds in psychology, ergonomics and anthropology in particular, enabling them to carry out in-depth research and propose innovative solutions.
"At Adéo, I'm a UX researcher and designer working on the Global Tech & Data platform, which manages all the tools used by the company's employees. My skills in UX Research and my seniority enable me to be entrusted with key missions for the company, particularly around AI, to consider the implementation of solutions aimed at accelerating the use of this technology within the company," concludes Batia.
