Sabo
How do you move around in virtual reality when there's only so much space to play in? After purchasing his first virtual reality headset, Robin realized that the available technology was far from perfect. For example, it is difficult for the player to generate movements with his feet without having to use his hands.
Sabo aims to improve the user experience in virtual reality. As a result, the experience is more natural and opens up new forms of interaction. The user frees up his hands to perform certain missions while his feet do the work. After presenting his project at the Laval Virtual Center Europe, Robin was able to successfully test his prototype on users specialized in virtual reality.
This project has been selected as part of Design L'Expo 2022 and will be exhibited at La Cale 2 Créateurs from 3 December 2022 to 26 February 2023.

"Sabo addresses the issue of mobility in virtual reality. A futuristic shoe, it revisits the famous "moonwalk" effect. Through an experimental approach, the ability to move in a restricted physical space increases. The control of movement is thus transferred to the shoe.
In addition, a physical reverse kinematics borrows the techniques of "skinning" from 3D animation. This innovative technology frees up the operator's hands and reinforces his/her ability to manoeuvre in immersion." Arnaud Le Roi, Teaching Manager Digital Design Lab
