SEDNA

Imagine the future of the oceans through design

5 students in the Master's program in Digital Design represented L’École de design Nantes Atlantique during the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC-3) in Nice from June 9 to 13, 2025. This global event aims to accelerate collective action for the protection of oceans, marine biodiversity, and sustainable development.

Their SEDNA project envisions a concrete response to the environmental and cultural challenges facing Arctic regions, rethinking sustainable solutions for housing, food, energy, and transportation. It has been praised for its innovative approach, driven by design that combines a systemic approach to environmental, technological, and cultural issues involved in preserving the fjord ecosystem and the culture of the Inuit people.

During this event, students had the opportunity to:

  • Presented SEDNA at a conference organized by the Jacques Rougerie Foundation, alongside other socially responsible projects
  • Participated in a keynote speech led by Jacques Rougerie in front of blue economy investors
  • Presented the project on the Promenade des Anglais, in a public exhibition dedicated to solutions for the future of the ocean

This project had already been recognized with the Jacques Rougerie Foundation's 2024 Prize for Architecture and Innovation for the Sea, demonstrating the school's students' ability to innovate and integrate design into a vision for the future.
This project was set up in partnership between the school's Digital Design Lab and Atlic Innoblue (European project funded by the program Interreg Atlantic Area), accompanied by experts, teacher-researchers, academics, industrialists, and biologists, on the themes of housing, energy, food, and transportation.
Congratulations to Juliette Amisse, Constance Fromentin, Maé Litou, Marine Tacquet and Etienne Tijou for their commitment, and to the Digital Design Lab team who are supporting them in this adventure.
